Message Take a deep breath Ash. It's not that simple. I didn't see the original post but here is my take on things. Sure, the officer can and should, to an extent, look for a suspect vehicle in a hit and run, and an Attempt to Locate should be broadcast. But failing that, there is not much to do. Here's an example. 2 years ago we had a fatal hit and run, a bicyclist hit by a car, NO witnesses. Well we found a piece of the headlight at the scene and eventually had it ID'd as belonging to a Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique. Because of the seriousness, we had DMV supply us with a listof EVERY matching model in the area--there were 14 pages, over 1500 cars, and we had to start checking them out. It took 10 officers full time 4 days to get through a couple hundred before the suspect realized it was only a matter of time and turned himself in. So, do you honestly expect that kind of followup for every hit and run (about 2-3 per day in my jurisdiction)?

"Slow in, fast out!"

Any idiot can drive fast; what makes a driver good is the ability to screw up and still save it...
